Girl Dies of Injuries; Stepfather Held

A 5-year-old Santa Ana girl believed to have been abused by her stepfather died Tuesday of her injuries, authorities said.
Doctors at UCI Medical Center removed Katya Jensen from life support systems and pronounced her dead about 6:55 p.m., Santa Ana police said.
Jensen’s stepfather, 28-year-old Bruce Alan Morton, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse late Monday after summoning police to the family’s apartment, where they found the child unconscious and unresponsive, with several bruises on her body.
On Tuesday, investigators said they plan to amend the charges against Morton to assault resulting in the death of a child, a crime punishable by 25 years to life in prison.
