TECHNOLOGY / MORE ON TECH : Amazon Hires Delta Chief Financial Officer

Bloomberg News

Amazon.com Inc. said it hired Delta Air Lines Inc.’s Warren Jenson as chief financial officer, making for the latest in a string of recent executive appointments. Jenson, 42, was Delta’s chief financial officer. Jenson succeeds Joy Covey, who was named chief strategy officer at the Seattle-based company in April. At Atlanta-based Delta, Jenson will be succeeded by Edward H. West, 33, senior vice president in strategy and development. West was acting chief financial officer at Delta before Jenson arrived in March 1998. In April, Delta denied investor speculation that Jenson might lose his job because of an embarrassing incident. A March 4 flight from Atlanta to Denver was delayed and four first-class passengers were downgraded to economy class after the airline seated Jenson’s three children and a friend in first class. Speculation that Jenson would lose his job sent shares down 5.4% on April 29. On Tuesday, Amazon.com rose 50 cents to close at $62.94 on Nasdaq; Delta fell $2.56 to close at $50.13 on the NYSE.
