* The Proven: University sophomore Angela Won was The Times’ county player of the year as a freshman; Courtney Goebel of Marina returns as defending Sunset League champion; Channing Lovejoy of Woodbridge shot a county-best 77 in the Southern Section individual finals last year; Shelly Raworth of Villa Park joins Lovejoy and Won as the only county players to break 80 in the section finals; 1998 Sea View League champion Meghan Mulhaupt of Santa Margarita returns to lead the Eagles in the Serra League; Priscilla Park, medalist in the Southern Regional tournament, transferred to Villa Park from Foothill; Sunny Lee of University won seven tournaments over the summer.
* The Promising: Cerritos Gahr transfer Stella Lee makes Irvine an instant Sea View League contender; Mater Dei sophomore Shayna Shaw had a solid freshman year; Rosary freshman Gina Gatari adds depth to a strong team; freshman Corrinn Lopez should make an impact for Canyon.
* Preseason Top 10: 1. University--Won and Lee are two of county’s top 10 players; 2. Villa Park--Park and Raworth make Spartans a section title contender; 3. Marina--Goebel is among three returners from Sunset League champions; 4. Santa Margarita--Toughest team in tough Serra League; 5. Woodbridge--Lovejoy should lead Warriors to Sea View title; 6. Rosary--Southern Section runner-up has depth to reload; 7. Canyon--Top four return for Century champions; 8. Mater Dei--Young but talented; 9. San Clemente--Consistent lineup top to bottom; 10. Esperanza--Could be county’s best-kept secret.
