VAN NUYS — Murder charges were filed against a 33-year-old Los Angeles man Wednesday in connection with the stabbing death of Mitchell Stanman of Studio City, prosecutors said.
Marcus Sartin, 33, was charged with one count each of murder, robbery and carjacking in last week’s slaying of Stanman, 41, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Diamond. Sartin also faces special circumstances allegations in the robbery and carjacking, opening the possibility that authorities could seek the death penalty.
Stanman was found tied and stabbed to death just before noon Sept. 2 in his ransacked apartment in the 4200 block of Arch Drive. Stanman’s 1999 silver Porsche Boxster was missing.
Police arrested Sartin early Friday in Los Angeles shortly after police there found the victim’s car near North Westmoreland and Melrose avenues.
Prosecutors said they believe Sartin, who is being held without bail at the downtown Twin Towers jail, knew the victim.
