MTA In the Dark About Tree Planting

A recent tree-planting by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority--obscured from the sun, beneath a Hollywood Freeway overpass--has left residents chuckling.
“We’re laughing, that’s all we can do,” said Lori Dinkin, president of the Valley Village Homeowners’ Assn.
The trees represented a handful of the 300 planted in the past two years by the transit agency along Chandler Boulevard, part of a beautification project that stretches between Colfax and Ethel avenues.
MTA spokesman Mark Pattison said Thursday the trees were probably planted under the freeway by a worker following orders conscientiously.
“Our contractor has simple instructions; to plant a tree every 35 feet, literally,” Pattison said.
He added that if in fact the trees have been planted in a place where conditions are less than ideal for their well-being, they will then be moved.
“The MTA will correct it,” Pattison said.
