Panel Approves Library Proposals

Plans to build a new public library branch in Chatsworth and to add a meeting room to the branch in North Hollywood received a green light Thursday from the Board of Library Commissioners.
In a unanimous vote, the commissioners agreed to replace the existing Chatsworth Library and the mini-mall next to it with a new 12,500-square-foot library with parking in the 21000 block of Devonshire Street, said Los Angeles Public Library spokesman Peter Persic.
Library staff will now negotiate with the owner of the mini-mall to buy the property, he said. The project is funded by a 1998 library bond.
The commissioners also approved a plan to build a community meeting room at the North Hollywood Regional Branch in the 5200 block of Tujunga Avenue. The project, designed by the M2A Milofsky & Michali Architects firm, is funded by Proposition DD.
Four of the five commissioners were present for the meeting, Persic said.
