Guard Hassan Bassiri scored all 11 of Campbell Hall’s points in overtime to lift the Vikings past Montclair Prep, 68-62, in a Delphic League game Friday night at Montclair Prep.
Campbell Hall (14-6, 3-1 in league play) overcame a 14-point, third-quarter deficit. The Vikings trailed by 10 points with 4:20 left, then went on a 10-0 streak to tie the game on Jesse Foster’s dunk with 1:18 remaining.
Montclair Prep (12-8, 2-3) was in position to win in regulation when Josiah Johnson was fouled with two seconds left. But he missed both free throws, giving the Vikings a second chance.
Bassiri, who finished with 30 points, took control in overtime. His biggest basket was a three-pointer from the top of the land with 1:04 to go that gave Campbell Hall its first lead since early in the first quarter.
“He wants to put the world on his shoulders,” Coach Brian Haloossim said.
Campbell Hall won despite making 11 of 31 (35.5%) free throws.
The 6-foot-8 Johnson, who finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds, dominated until missing four consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter. Michael Womack scored 14 points for Campbell Hall.
Campbell Hall stayed in contention with Crossroads and Pacific Hills for the Delphic League championship.
