Drivers might not see it or feel it, but a major public works project is heading their way.
Directors of the Orange County Transportation Authority, which administers the federal Arterial Highway Rehabilitation Program locally, approved $6.14 million in federal grants June 26. In the next three years, 222 street improvement projects throughout the county will be funded with $60.5 million.
A local match of at least 50% is required to receive the money. Irvine’s share of gas tax revenue will largely fund projects in the city, said project development administrator Marty Bryant.
