SPORT: Baseball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Geery has emerged as one of Kennedy’s hottest hitters entering tonight’s City Championship game at Dodger Stadium. He is batting .388 with 26 runs batted in and 13 doubles. As a pitcher, he is 4-5 with a 2.26 earned-run average.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Geery hit a home run, two doubles and a single in Kennedy’s 11-4 quarterfinal upset over top-seeded Chatsworth. In the semifinals, he pitched a three-hitter in a 10-1 victory over Banning.

SCHOOL: Taft
YEAR: Junior
SPORT: Track and field
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Brignac won the high jump in the state championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk on Saturday after winning her third consecutive City title on May 25. She placed second in the long jump and triple jump to help Taft win its third consecutive City title.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Brignac, who transferred from Cleveland to Taft last fall, cleared a school-record 5-9 in the high jump to become the Toreadors’ first girls’ state champion. “It feels great,” Brignac said. “I”ve wanted this for a long time.”
