Newbury Park Doubles Up on Buena

Chrissy Zappia pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks, and Newbury Park High completed a sweep of a nonleague doubleheader against Buena with a 2-0 victory Friday at Borchard Park in Newbury Park.
Katie Stokx (1-0) struck out 11 and walked seven as the Panthers, ranked fourth in the region by The Times, won the first game, 3-1.
Stokx also had three hits and two runs batted in.
Jennifer Dilley had two hits and Melissa Mastracco hit a solo home run in the fifth inning in the first game for Newbury Park (2-0).
Rio Mesa 0-2, Thousand Oaks 0-1--Nicole Angelo struck out 19 for Thousand Oaks and Chanel Tripp of Rio Mesa struck out 10 in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader that was called by a time limit after nine innings at Thousand Oaks.
Jenni Perez hit a two-run double and the Spartans (1-2-1) defeated the No. 2-ranked Lancers (0-1-1) in the second game.
Littlerock 13, Desert 6--Tanya Moran struck out five, and Vanessa Tait and Alondra Scandrick each had three hits for the Lobos (1-4) in a victory at Littlerock.
Kennedy 11, Chatsworth 1--Monique Acedo hit a grand slam in the seventh inning for the Golden Cougars in a nonleague game at Chatsworth. Ryane Montes pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts.
Brinne Cavinn had three hits for Kennedy (4-0).
