K. George “Thampi” Varughese, a former taxi driver, died at his home in Camarillo after a yearlong illness. He was 55.
Varughese, who died Wednesday, was born Aug. 28, 1945, in Kerala, India, where he grew up and went to school.
He worked as a taxi driver before moving his family to Camarillo in October 1992.
Varughese bought and drove an ice cream truck and also worked in the maintenance department of a convalescent home in Camarillo.
His family said he was a quiet man who worked hard, and that he liked to watch televised sports, particularly basketball and soccer.
He is survived by Anna, his wife of 22 years; two daughters, Biji and Beena, of Camarillo; his mother, Aleyamma, of India; and a sister, Susan, of Camarillo.
Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary Chapel in Camarillo.
Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, also in Camarillo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary.
