Buena 35, Rio Mesa 7--Freddy Keiaho rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns in 19 carries, including a 44-yard touchdown on the Bulldogs’ first play from scrimmage at Rio Mesa.
Buena’s defense held Rio Mesa (0-2) to minus-13 yards and no first downs before pulling its starters midway through the fourth quarter. Rio Mesa scored on a 40-yard pass from Lionel Carrizales to Ruben Sanchez with nine minutes to play.
Two bad snaps on Rio Mesa punts set up Buena scores. One led to a seven-yard scoring run by Keiaho that gave Buena (1-1) a 28-0 lead.
On Rio Mesa’s next possession, a bad snap set up a one-yard touchdown run by Ricky Koger.
Paul Johnsonbaugh and Andrew Paulson alternated at quarterback for Buena. Paulson complete all four of his pass attempts for 55 yards and a touchdown.
