Rodriguez Is Fine Catch for Granada Hills
- Share via
There is no question about the efficiency of Granada Hills High receiver Joey Rodriguez.
In his first two games this season, Rodriguez has caught five passes for five touchdowns.
Rodriguez had two receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns in Granada Hills’ 20-0 victory over Canyon in an intersectional game Friday night at Granada Hills.
He scored on a 44-yard play late in the first quarter and a 59-yard play late in the second quarter, making the score 20-0.
“We try to make those plays work for as many yards as we can and Bobby Baca’s been getting me the ball,” Rodriguez said. “But this has been incredible.”
The catches by Rodriguez turned out to be more than enough offense for the Highlanders (2-0), who held Canyon’s wing-T offense to 74 yards.
The Cowboys (1-1) finished with five yards passing and didn’t advance into Granada Hills territory.
Baca struggled at times, completing six of 17 passes for 170 yards.
The Highlanders received an impressive performance from running back Robert Ortega.
He finished with 135 yards in 14 carries and had three catches for 51 yards. Bryan Wilson rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown in eight carries.
