Six paramilitary police officers have been charged in the slayings of 57 men whose bodies were found in a pile after election violence in Ivory Coast, the ruling party newspaper reported.
The officers were charged with murder and assassination but were allowed to return to their posts until their trial, state prosecutor Yua Koffi told Notre Voie, the newspaper of President Laurent Gbagbo’s Ivorian Popular Front.
The bodies were found in a field outside Abidjan, the commercial capital, after clashes broke out during the Oct. 22 presidential election.
