Pierce Repeats Its State Title

Pierce College won its second consecutive California Community College men’s volleyball championship on Saturday night by defeating Orange Coast, 25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 29-27, at Long Beach City College.
The Brahmas (19-0) handed the Pirates (21-2) their only losses this season.
Pierce, which lost in the 1999 state final, have five state titles, tied with Orange Coast and Golden West for the most.
The three schools have accounted for 15 of the 16 state titles since 1986.
Brandon Butchart had 15 kills for Pierce, Steve Foote added 14 kills and six blocks, and Dhiraj Coates, the tournament’s most valuable player, had 13 kills.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Westlake 7, Rio Mesa 0--Chris White pitched a two-hitter and the Warriors (19-4-1) won the Redondo tournament at Redondo High.
White had a no-hitter until Brian Mauricio doubled with two out in the sixth inning for Rio Mesa (12-13).
Tyler Adamczyk drove in two runs with a single off Anthony Dugas (1-2) in the top of the first.
Mike Nickeas added a two-run homer, his seventh, in the seventh.
