Scott Fickerson, a graduate of Ventura High and UC Davis, was named cross-country and track and field coach at Cal Lutheran.
Fickerson, 28, coached at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., in 1999 and at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, the last two years. Fickerson specialized in distance coaching and helped Wheaton’s women win the 1999 NCAA Division III indoor track and field championship in its fifth year of existence, an NCAA record.
“CLU should be right there with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges,” Fickerson said of a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival. “My No. 1 objective will be to increase the level of competition and awareness. My No. 2 objective will be recruiting.”
