* Simon Worldwide Inc., whose Los Angeles-based unit handled contests for McDonald’s Corp. until an alleged scam was uncovered this week, said that Ron Burkle and Erika Paulson of the Yucaipa Cos. have resigned from its board. Two of the three Yucaipa representatives resigned because they also are directors of Golden State Foods, a major McDonald’s supplier, which legal counsel said would pose a potential conflict of interest, Simon said.

* Komag Inc., a maker of storage disks for computers, said it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as it faces mounting losses and more than $400 million in debt. The company said it reached an agreement with holders of its senior bank debt on a reorganization plan.
