Loudcloud Inc., a manager of Web sites for corporations that was founded by Internet pioneer Marc Andreessen, said its second-quarter loss widened to $76 million, or $1.19 a share, as sales grew dramatically, to $14.1 million. A year ago, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company lost $34.5 million on sales of $1.86 million in the period ended July 31.
Excluding costs for job cuts and other items, Loudcloud would have had a loss of $45.8 million, or 72 cents a share. On that basis, which doesn’t comply with generally accepted accounting principles, Loudcloud was expected to have a loss of 88 cents, the average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call. Loudcloud expects a third-quarter loss of 68 cents to 70 cents a share. First Call had expected a loss of 81 cents.
