SIMI VALLEY — After a low-speed chase that spanned two counties, officers arrested three men Tuesday night in connection with an attempted carjacking in Simi Valley in which the car’s owner was shot in the leg, authorities said.
The arrests occurred about 8 p.m. on the San Diego Freeway at Victory Boulevard in L.A. County.
Simi Valley Police Lt. Ken Tacke said he expected the suspects, who were not immediately identified, to be booked on suspicion of robbery or carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Tacke, at about 7:15 p.m. at least two of the suspects attempted to take a car belonging to a man in his 60s outside his home on Elvado Drive in Simi.
Several residents heard the commotion and called police with a description of the attackers’ car, Tacke said. A Simi Valley officer saw the vehicle on the eastbound Ronald Reagan Freeway and followed until backup units joined the chase in L.A. County, police said.
A briefcase belonging to the victim was found in the suspects’ car, authorities said. The victim, who was not identified, was being treated late Tuesday at Simi Valley Hospital. Tacke said the wound was not life-threatening.
