A 35-year-old man and his 6-year-old passenger were killed Friday when their car drove off a freeway transition road, ejecting both from the vehicle, authorities said.
Neither victim was wearing a safety belt, said California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane. But a second passenger, a 24-year-old man, was belted and survived the 3 p.m. accident with minor injuries, she said.
The three were heading from the northbound Golden State Freeway to the eastbound 118 Freeway when their car hit the guardrail and a light pole, then went down an embankment, she said.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was pronounced dead at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, said Los Angeles city Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis. The names of the victims and the cause of the accident were not immediately available, authorities said.
