VENTURA — A car fire in the garage of a large beach-front home late Friday caused more than $650,000 in damage, authorities said Saturday.
The fire started shortly after 10 p.m. in the 1400 block of Greenock Lane, authorities said.
They said flames quickly engulfed the garage before spreading throughout the four-story house. Four people escaped unharmed.
Twenty-six firefighters from the city of Ventura and the county fought the fire.
The cause was under investigation Saturday. Officials said they have narrowed the fire’s origin to inside a car in the garage.
Damage to the structure was estimated at $400,000 and more than $250,000 in personal possessions were destroyed, authorities said.
The home had been listed for sale with an asking price of more than $1 million, fire officials said.
