From Times Staff Reports
A civil trial is set to begin Monday for City Councilman Chris Steel, who is accused in a lawsuit of submitting forged signatures on his 1998 and 2000 nomination papers.
Michael Szkaradek, a Costa Mesa lawyer and accountant, filed suit May 29 in Orange County Superior Court asking that Steel be removed from the council.
Steel is also in the middle of a criminal trial over the same issue, and is charged with two felony counts of perjury.
