FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The younger brother of Rep. Gary A. Condit (D-Ceres) was arrested Saturday on charges that he violated his probation in a 1996 drunken driving case, authorities said.
Darrell Wayne Condit was taken into custody as he tried to check into the Red Carpet Inn in Dania Beach, near Fort Lauderdale. An off-duty deputy recognized Condit’s van as he pulled into the parking lot.
Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman for the Broward County Sheriff, confirmed that Condit is the brother of the congressman who has been romantically linked with missing intern Chandra Levy.
Darrell Condit, 49, was arrested in Monroe County in November 1996 and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana, officials said.
Monroe County sheriff’s spokeswoman Becky Herrin said she did not know how Condit violated his probation.
