Boeing Co. is talking with several airlines about starting a limited test of its high-speed Internet system that will allow passengers to send and receive e-mail and browse Web sites during flight, a company spokesman said.
The Seattle-based aircraft maker could announce an agreement as early as this week, although Boeing has been hoping to unveil the pact at the Paris Air Show, which begins June 16.
Bloomberg News said last week that AMR’s American Airlines, UAL’s United Airlines and Delta Air Lines were close to signing a deal with Boeing to conduct a limited test. About 200 engineers in Irvine are developing the satellite-based system, officially dubbed Connexion by Boeing.
