Elizabeth ‘Lois’ Bateman; Retired Teacher

Elizabeth “Lois” Bateman, a retired teacher, died Sunday after a brief illness. She was 68.
Bateman was born Aug. 2, 1932, in South Hampton, Pa. She had been a resident of Ventura County for 25 years.
Bateman was a teacher at Friends School in Ventura and was known to students as “Miss Lois.”
Her friends and family said she loved animals and was a talented musician.
Her husband, Richard M. Bateman Sr., died in 1993.
She is survived by daughters Carol Hartnett and Karen Bateman; son Richard Bateman Jr.; sisters Marion Gbur and Ginny Harris Bellinger, and two grandchildren.
Memorial services are scheduled at 7 tonight at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, which is handling the arrangements. The Rev. Tony Austin of the Community of Christ Church in Ventura will officiate. Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo.
