2 Women Struck While Crossing Street, 1 Dies

A woman was fatally injured Friday and her friend was hospitalized with a broken pelvis, cuts and bruises after the two were struck by a car in a crosswalk in Cypress.
Soon Byun, 72, was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange. Myo Barbu, 69, was in stable condition at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
The women, both of Cypress, were hit by an automobile about 7:55 a.m. as they crossed Orange Avenue at Somerset Lane, Cypress Police Lt. David Birozy said. The driver of the car was not hurt and was not cited.
The incident remains under investigation.
