Diesel Generators
Although our national focus is understandably on what is occurring in the Middle East, we must still continue our efforts to ensure public health here in California. Diesel generators have proliferated in recent months, totaling 26,000 statewide. Obviously, diesel-powered generators are the most polluting source of energy, emitting over 130 times more pollution than a natural gas plant. A person’s risk of getting cancer increases by 50% if he or she lives or works near an active generator.
The California Air Resources Board will be making its decision on the emission standards for these generators next month. The board needs to limit the damage caused by our worst source of power.
