Fifteen motorists were arrested and their cars impounded at a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint late Friday in Irvine.
Conducting their second such operation this year, Irvine police stopped 617 cars at Irvine Center Drive and Hubble Street.
Police selected vehicles randomly, then gave sobriety tests to selected drivers. They also checked the validity of the drivers’ licenses.
Police arrested seven motorists for driving while intoxicated and eight for various misdemeanors, said Irvine Police Sgt. Denny Jenner. Officers also issued 37 citations.
