Sponsoring Terrorism

Thanks for running “Vietnam Calls O.C. Group Terrorists” (Oct. 21). It will be interesting to see if the U.S., whose own CIA has sponsored so many terrorist groups around the world during the last 50 years, ends up being hoisted by its own petard on this issue, especially in view of its current self-righteous chest-beating against terrorism.

One particular gem in the article was the note that it is illegal for Americans to become involved in an effort to overthrow a foreign government. Times readers will recall many articles in recent days where high-ranking U.S. officials enthusiastically discuss our picks for the replacement government in Afghanistan once our bombing campaign unseats the current one.

Time to repeal this law, methinks; overthrowing foreign governments is a time-honored American tradition!
