A pickup carrying three teens on their way to Simi Valley High School and a school bus full of special-education students collided Tuesday morning, sending 11 people to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The Simi Valley Unified School District bus carrying eight special-education students and one instructional aide was heading to Mountain View Elementary and Hillside Middle schools about 7:30 a.m., authorities said.
As the bus driver, Laura Eaton, 32, of Simi Valley, prepared to make a left turn, the signal turned yellow, Webb said. A white GMC pickup traveling in the opposite direction slammed into the bus, causing it to spin. The bus struck a Dodge pickup and then overturned onto a Nissan Altima that had been waiting for a red light.
A hospital official said injuries included a fractured hip and a fractured wrist, as well as scrapes and bruises. The 16-year-old GMC truck driver sustained a broken wrist and the two other students in the truck had minor injuries.
