Covina Charter Oak 14, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 13--With his team trailing, 13-0, with 5:43 left in the game, Charter Oak sophomore quarterback Michael Perri engineered two scoring drives to give the Chargers a victory over Miramonte League rival Los Altos.
Perri’s three-yard scoring pass to J.C. McLaurin with 53 seconds remaining completed the comeback for Charter Oak (6-2, 3-0).
It also provided the Chargers with a little redemption, having lost to the Conquerors (6-2, 2-1) in the last two Southern Section Division VII title games.
Just a few minutes earlier, Perri had set up Charter Oak’s first score with a couple of long passes. Senior running back Keith Harris finished the drive with a three-yard run.
Perri completed seven of 11 passes for 98 yards on the two scoring drives.
He also scrambled 14 yards for a first down on fourth and six from the Los Altos 36.
