When my husband and I were working full time, we spent our vacations flying to visit our families. We often encountered delays, overbookings and other frustrations.
When we retired two years ago, we decided to try Amtrak.
The moment we stepped on board the train we had a different feeling. Instead of flying over this beautiful and diverse country, we were at last seeing it at ground level. We spent a little extra for a sleeper compartment, but it was worth it. The train offered excellent food, good current movies and superb service.
An occasional delay? So what. We just sat back in the observation car or in our private room, caught up on our reading, sipped a beer or glass of wine, took a walk through the train (you can’t do that on a plane) or visited with some interesting people.
We encourage those who are weary of airline travel and those who don’t care to drive thousands of miles to give Amtrak a try.
