Governor’s Ex-Aide Pleads Guilty to Fraud

A former aide to Illinois Gov. George Ryan who worked on his campaign while collecting a state salary pleaded guilty to fraud and was cooperating with prosecutors in a wider corruption probe.
Richard Juliano, 35, entered his guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Chicago to one count of mail fraud. He could be sentenced to up to 2 1/2 years in prison, depending on his level of cooperation in the prosecution of Ryan’s campaign and its top manager on corruption and racketeering charges, federal prosecutors said.
