WorldCom Situation Doesn’t Reconcile
I have a problem reconciling a couple of items in the Nov. 12 Business section. There is an “In Brief” item mentioning that WorldCom Inc. lost $108 million in September after a reduction in revenue from August.
The problem comes from the WorldCom full-page ad in the same edition telling me they have more than $1 billion in cash and a statement to financial progress.
A reduction of revenue and a loss of $108 million is progress? Also, how can a business with more than $1 billion in cash file for bankruptcy protection?
This causes me a great deal of wonderment as I sit here with more than $12 in cash in my pocket while awaiting arrival of my December retirement check.
