Charter School Under Investigation

GateWay Academy, a charter school with 11 campuses statewide, is under investigation for possible financial mismanagement. Local agencies and the FBI are probing the school’s spending and its parent, Heritage Development Corp.
GateWay Supt. Khadijah Ghafur denied any impropriety, saying the spotlight on GateWay is prompted by fears about Muslims after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
