In girls’ basketball:

Ventura 63, Ventura Buena 43--Katy O’Brien scored 22 points and Jenni Dooley scored 18 to lead No. 15 Ventura (14-2, 2-0) in a Channel League game.

No. 6 Buena (10-5, 1-1), which has won or shared 25 of the last 26 league titles, trailed, 19-15, entering the second quarter. Ventura used a 14-4 run to build an eventual 37-21 halftime lead.

Courtney LaVere scored 19 of Buena’s 21 points in the first half and finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Ventura made 24 of 52 shots from the field, including eight of 23 three-point attempts.
