QB McCann Will Transfer From UCLA
Quarterback Ryan McCann, who led UCLA to victories over Alabama and Michigan as a sophomore but was third string last season, said Wednesday night he will transfer today to a Division I-AA school.
McCann, a 6-foot-3 junior from Agoura High, must transfer to a program below the Division I-A level to be eligible next fall. He has narrowed his choice to two schools but declined to identify them.
McCann’s departure leaves UCLA with Cory Paus as the only experienced quarterback. Paus, who will be a senior, has started 24 games but faltered late last season and must serve a four-day jail sentence for drunk driving later this month.
Also competing for the job will be John Sciarra, who will be a redshirt freshman, and incoming freshmen Matt Moore of Hart High and Drew Olson of Piedmont High. A third freshman, Trent Edwards of Los Gatos, might sign in February.
