Fairfax Gets Revenge by Upsetting Westchester

They had been humiliated on their home floor, in front of their friends, fans and family.

No, the members of the Fairfax High boys’ basketball team didn’t forget the 32-point loss they suffered earlier this month against Westchester.

They avenged it.

Fairfax stunned the Comets, 66-62, in a Western League game Friday at Westchester.

Evan Burns scored 17 points for Fairfax (21-3, 7-1 in league play), which led at halftime, 29-22, and never let Westchester unleash its high-flying offense.

Westchester (19-2, 7-1), ranked No. 3 in the nation by USA Today, took a 50-48 lead on a putback by Keith Everage with 6:25 left, but Alex Bausley’s three-pointer gave Fairfax the lead for good.

Brandon Heath made three free throws with nine seconds left to pull Westchester within 64-62, but Kevin Bell made two free throws to seal the victory.

“We can overcome and we can play with anybody in this country,” said Burns, who has committed to UCLA. “We’re underrated.”

Arizona-bound guard Hassan Adams scored 17 points for Westchester, which made only one of 16 attempts from three-point range.

Freshman Jamal Boykin scored 10 points for Fairfax, which is 1-2 against Westchester this season, having lost by two to the Comets in the Westchester tournament Dec. 8.
