In that last game, Game 2 of the World Series, Appier gave up three home runs -- to Reggie Sanders, David Bell and Jeff Kent -- within a span of seven batters. Ortiz started that game for the Giants, giving up nine hits in 1 2/3 innings. The first four batters each hit safely and scored, with Tim Salmon hitting a home run in the second inning.
