Japanese Germ Warfare During World War II

Re “Group Speaks of Japanese WWII Germ Warfare Tests,” Aug. 12: It is time the world learns the truth. I learned about the Japanese government’s biological experiments on rural Chinese civilians from my grandmother, before I even entered middle school. When I was in high school, I questioned my world history teacher on why such information was omitted from my history book. His answer: “Your relatives lied; no such thing occurred.”

I not only have relatives who witnessed the black swarm of plague-infested fleas dumped from the skies, but I also have relatives who died as a result. All of my elders, including both my parents, witnessed such events and other unmentionable violence inflicted upon the Chinese by the Japanese during the war. For the Japanese government to deny such events ever occurred, and for the U.S. government to withhold documents regarding such programs from being reviewed, is to deny an accurate recording of history. Such truths will not only highlight the brutalities of war but confirm what many Chinese already know.
