44 Candidates Vie for Seat in U.S. House

Hawaiian voters faced a ballot jammed with 44 candidates for the nation’s last unsettled congressional seat.
Rep. Ed Case, a Democrat and a cousin of AOL-Time Warner Inc. Chairman Stephen Case, appeared to have the edge as the incumbent, though he has held the 2nd District office for only a few weeks.
Case easily won a special election five weeks ago to finish the term of the late U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink.
Mink died shortly after winning the September primary, but she still was elected in November.
Her death came two days after a deadline for the party to replace her on the general election ballot.
