Man, 25, Dies After Fall From Cliff Near UCSB

A 25-year-old San Jose man was killed after falling 80 feet off an oceanfront cliff in Isla Vista, near UC Santa Barbara, authorities said.
Robert Anthony Carabal, a former UCSB student who was visiting for a friend’s graduation, died at a local hospital about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after falling in the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive, according to a statement by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Pappas. Deputies were investigating whether Carabal was on a balcony or was climbing on the cliff when he fell.
It was the third fatal fall in the area. In separate incidents in 2001, two Santa Barbara City College students died after falling into the ocean.
