Advice, Mike Marriner and Nathan Gebhard write, “distracts you from building a life that’s in tune with what you’re passionate about as an individual” (“Seeking the Secret to Success,” June 5).
These young men discovered what many of their elders have not: Each of us is the only expert on ourselves. I believe each of us has all the answers we need to find our own kind of success, but we may benefit from the guidance of a skilled and curious questioner to help us find them.
Thank you, Susan Carpenter, for reminding us that, regardless of our age, “To thine own self be true” still makes sense.
