Measure May Shape Fate of Travis Air Force Base
- Share via
Environmentalists and military retirees are backing an initiative that supporters say could prevent Travis Air Force Base from being targeted for closing by requiring that voters approve any future developments in the area around the base. But opponents say it’s really just an antigrowth measure and would do little to protect the base.
The measure, which will appear on the ballot Tuesday, would remain in place until 2020.
It was initially adopted by the City Council after proponents gathered more than 7,000 signatures, but a referendum has forced the measure before voters.
