From Times Wire Reports
Detroit’s police chief resigned, saying controversy over his failure to declare a loaded pistol on a flight was affecting his ability to reform the department.
Federal authorities charged Jerry Oliver with a civil infraction and he will be fined between $300 and $1,000. Oliver’s .25-caliber pistol was discovered by officials screening his luggage.
“The past two weeks have been extremely difficult and painful,” Oliver said. “All of this has cast a pall over the department, the administration and the city that we serve. And that pains me greatly.”
