U.S. Identifies 3 Slain Soldiers

The Department of Defense on Wednesday identified three soldiers killed in Iraq recently in separate attacks involving improvised bombs.
Second Lt. Todd J. Bryant, 23, of Riverside was killed Friday in Fallouja while on patrol in the city west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, at Ft. Riley, Kan.
Spc. Maurice J. Johnson, 21, of Levittown, Pa., was killed Saturday in the northern city of Mosul. Johnson was assigned to C Company, 501st Signal Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), based at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
Sgt. Francisco Martinez, 28, of Humacao, Puerto Rico, was killed Tuesday in Baghdad while riding in a convoy. Martinez was assigned to B Detachment, 82nd Soldier Support Battalion (Airborne), at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Meanwhile, the military reported that a soldier with the 1st Armored Division was killed by “nonhostile” gunfire Wednesday at a checkpoint in Baghdad. The victim’s name was not released.
