City Gets Funds to Help Create Riverfront Park

The city will get a $2-million grant from the Sonoma County open space district to help create a 500-acre park along Petaluma River.
The money will be used to buy 221 acres along Lakeville Highway next to Schollenberger Park.
The city’s plan to purchase land, build trails and restore wetlands and Ellis Creek, along with constructing a visitors center and other amenities, was expected to cost $9.7 million.
The state coastal conservancy also has authorized $2 million for the project.
