Police Chief Anthony “Skip” DiCerchio has resigned in the wake of his second drunk-driving arrest in three weeks.
DiCerchio, 65, who became National City’s police chief in 1996, submitted his resignation Tuesday, said Interim City Manager Park Morse.
DiCerchio had been on leave since summer after the City Council directed the city manager to begin an investigation into complaints that the chief had been drinking on duty.
He was arrested Oct. 9 after his car hit a parked vehicle at a Chula Vista shopping center. He was cited for misdemeanor driving under the influence.
DiCerchio was arrested again early Oct. 31 after a convenience store clerk alerted Chula Vista police that he appeared to be intoxicated when he drove away from the store.
