Rare Whales Return After 20-Year Absence

Scientists have confirmed the first sighting of endangered right whales in the Gulf of Mexico in more than 20 years.
University of Florida student Chris Cramer photographed the two whales off the Florida Panhandle. The photos were reviewed by whale experts who recognized the animals as right whales, probably a female and her calf.
With only about 300 remaining, right whales are considered the world’s most endangered species of whale.
