Looking for a ‘Super’ Envoy to Iraq
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John D. Negroponte is being considered as top choice for the position of Iraq envoy (April 13). During the mid-1980s, Negroponte was involved in covering up right-wing death squad activity and other human rights abuses in Honduras when he served as ambassador to that country. During that period, hundreds of people were tortured and murdered, including American missionaries.
Doesn’t Negroponte’s role in aiding and abetting state terrorism in Central America undermine the credibility of the U.S. in its war against international terrorism? The duplicity is astounding.

I almost laughed when I read that Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz was on the president’s short list of possible candidates as American envoy to Iraq. It would be fitting, indeed, if this narrow-minded warmonger should be appointed. I imagine that he would need lots of security.
Negroponte is certainly qualified, and multilingual, to boot. I think he should stay with the very important U.N. post. Are there any qualified Arabic speakers available for this “super-embassy”?
